It is with great sadness that I write of the passing of Stefan Schwabik on November 4th, 2009. Below is the notice in the Czech language.
S hlubokým zármutkem sdělujeme, že
pan
Prof. RNDr. Štefan Schwabik, DrSc.
vědecký pracovník Matematického ústavu Akademie věd České republiky
zemřel náhle ve středu 4. listopadu 2009 ve věku 68 let.
Zesnulý významně přispěl k rozvoji české a světové matematiky,
po desetiletí patřil k nejvýraznějším reprezentantům Matematického ústavu
i celé československé matematiky.
Byl vynikajícím představitelem pražské školy teorie integrálu
a diferenciálních rovnic a výrazně obohatil odbornou matematickou literaturu.
Byl vynikajícím kolegou a kamarádem a byl uznáván i mimo matematickou obec
jako osobnost pevných zásad a jasných názorů.
Rozloučení se zesnulým se koná

Just a quick note: The Schwabik information on Rootsweb that pertains to our Schwabik family in the US is INCORRECT - the person that posted (Bob Bamford) unfortunately did NOT have the correct information. Our Joseph Schwabik, listed as Rootsweb ID: I1020, was born in Iglo, NOT Prague. Anna Murin was born in Spisske Podhradie, NOT Budapest. Unfortunately we have no way to correct this misinformation. A reminder to genealogists to be sure of the facts before making posts.
